Film Directing Faculty For Advanced Film Directing

This is a full time nine month faculty position in the School of Film/Video, Film Directing Program beginning September 2009. The Film Directing Program is a small, innovative, culturally diverse graduate program in narrative film directing with a low faculty to studio ratio. Individual mentoring is a crucial component of the program.

Qualifications

Candidates must be nationally recognized practicing filmmakers with significant teaching experience and an ability to work with a diverse range of students whose filmmaking encompasses a diverse range of classical and experimental narrative styles. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished director with significant experience in working with actors. They must be able to push advanced students to find their own directorial voices while overseeing the production and post-production of ambitious short films. The candidate will be well-versed in 35mm and 16mm filmmaking, digital production and post-production and will have a wide-ranging knowledge of film history and theory.

Duties

Duties include teaching advanced courses in Film Directing as well as two other courses to be determined. Among these courses will be a seminar on career strategies for graduating students.

Will also serve as an academic and artistic mentor to several students including being a member of thesis review committees as well as participating in departmental matters.
