Bill Alschuler received a doctorate in astronomy from UC Santa Cruz. He was an invited speaker at the 6th International Symposium on Display Holography and has held research and education grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and various private foundations. His Holograms have been seen in multimedia shows at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and recently Live With Animals Gallery and the California College of the Arts Faculty Show. He edits and writes science books for the general public and his published works cover astronomy, energy conservation in building design, UFOs and dinosaurs.

His current research interests center on the revival of a dead form of color photography. He contributed 10 articles to the New Encyclopedia of 19th Century Photography, published August, 2007. Under his direction, the first ever science exhibition was held at CalArts in the spring of 1993. In May 2002 he opened the CalArts Natural History Collection.
