At the forefront of independent animation, Suzan Pitt is an animation artist whose works have won many prizes in film festivals around the world. Her films “ASPARAGUS”, “JOY STREET” and “EL DOCTOR” were featured at the Sundance Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Ottawa International Animation Festival, London Film Festival, and theatrical runs in New York and Los Angeles.

She has had major exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of Art, the Holly Solomon Gallery in New York, and the Stedlijk Museum in Amsterdam. She has designed two operas in Germany which were the first operas to include animated images for the stage (Damnation of Faust, and The Magic Flute). In addition, Pitt has created two large multi-media shows at the Venice Biennale and Harvard University.

She created the first animated shorts for television which featured Spanish-speaking characters for PBS ("COLORS/COLORES)and also directed one of the first Latino animation series for the Cartoon Network ("Troubles the Cat").

A former Associate Professor at Harvard University, Pitt is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Rockefeller Fellowship, and three production grants from the National Endowment of the Arts.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York recently presented a retrospective of her work, and a new DVD compilation of her films including a documentary about her work is currently available from First Run Features, www.firstrunfeatures.com
