Purchasing hardware and software

CalArts departments are strongly encouraged to contact the Help Desk prior to purchasing new hardware or software to ensure compatibility with the CalArts network and our ability to support the technology.

 

 Selected current IT projects

Student information system: exploring the feasibility of acquiring and installing modern student and administrative computing system.

Mailroom: investigating options for automating the tracking, delivery, and receipt of packages.

Room scheduling: installing software to automate the management of room scheduling throughout the Institute.

Wireless:  acquiring hardware, running electrical and network cabling, installing components to allow for a modern wireless network to be rolled out in stages.

Network backbone: installing and upgrading network fiber optic backbone traffic to high-speed (10Gbps)  capacity.

Monitoring: installing and testing ability to remotely monitor the physical  environmental of our network closets.

Faculty and staff database: creating a database to serve as a centralized source for directory information.

 

Wireless Network Access Available

Wireless network access is currently available in the following public spaces: Cafeteria, Library, Main Gallery.

Streaming Server Available

A streaming server is available for use by faculty and staff. Contact Sean Murphy, Senior Network Technician (x7732; smurphy@calarts.edu) for details.
